I can’t get over this story…
Kibera, Kenya. Africa’s largest slum. Imagine the worst living conditions, surrounded by garbage and raw sewage, you decide to grow a garden. Now imagine not just a small plot kicking down a few weak tomatoes, but a large, thriving, Organic community garden built and maintained by a youth group of reformed criminals using several innovative methods that now feeds over 30 local families! Bam!

Before & After!
Glimpse into the eyes of those who accomplished against great odds: BBC Audio slideshow: Kenyan slum goes organic!
Check out the truly innovative methods they used to get started: AfriGadget
They harvested earthworms to start vermiculture! To make it truly Organic they had to treat/retreat the gnarly garbage dump soil; so they initially grew sunflowers to tap the battery acid that the garbage pit had left behind! I mean c’mon!
And to think I complained to myself about drinking water from the tap.
